In her paintings Valerie endeavours to catch the magic of a moment in the landscape, the shape and pattern of the land, fleeting light, the power of the mountains and, above all, the strength and complexity of our native Caledonian Pine.

The Cairngorms provide frequent inspiration, as does the landscape of Assynt, which she visits frequently. Many of the smaller watercolours are done on long day’s walking in the hills; the larger watercolours and oils are completed in the studio.
