Profiles of Artists exhibiting at The Beauly Gallery

Profile of Sheena Clarke

After 5 year's study at Winchester Art College, Sheena spent two years in Arabia and Africa, developing her painting and drawing of fine landscapes and people of these countries. Back in England she developed a fascination with country churches and graveyards, which took her down to North Cornwall. Many of these drawings were developed as wood engravings and lino-cuts.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the country, and in Africa, Arabia, and America. She has been hung on several occasions at the Royal Academy and her work selected for a British Educational tour for a year. She was honoured to be selected as 'Woman of the Year', for her work.

Sheena began working with Batik in 1975 after frequent visits to Arizona, USA. The curious and colourful rock formations of Monument Valley, inspired her to work in this medium. She then spent three years living at Laguna Beach, Southern California, where she taught Batik. Now based in London, she has a second home in Scotland, which she visits frequently.

Much of her subject matter in recent years has been inspired by the Inverness area,  in particular Cromarty on the Black Isle. Recently retired as Head of Art at Colet Court, St Paul's Prep School in Barnes, London, she now works from her studio. She has just finished illustrating two books on colour. Commissions for her work are welcome, and she can be visited at her studio in Sheen, West London.
