Profile of Anthony J Barber

Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1962, Anthony studied architecture to degree, then post graduate level, in the 1980's in Yorkshire. However, having visited most of the west coast islands during the late eighties and early nineties, he became obsessed with their beauty, and, in 1994 he moved to the Isle of Lewis. He now works from his studio gallery in the north of the island, at Port of Ness, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. In 1996 he started to publish a series of greeting cards and fine art prints from his original paintings. In 1997, he was commissioned to do the front cover for the Western Isles tourist brochure.

Recent trips to Italy have created a new body of work. This work includes details of the landscape and buildings of the different regions, and provides a contrast to his Scottish work. Anthony has exhibited in galleries in the UK and his paintings are in private collections in Europe, USA and Australia.
