Kay Callander
I live and work in the Scottish Borders where the peace and beauty of the countryside provide an inspirational backdrop. A degree in archaeology opened up windows on the past for me, and I adore much of the jewellery produced during the days of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Added to that, I am passionate about the Islamic culture of the Middle East and North Africa, with its wealth of fabulous artistic tradition.

The appeal of working with semi-precious stones, with all the wonderful colours, shapes and textures is unending, like one fantastic geology lesson. Put these with silver and occasionally gold vermeil and the work of a jewellery designer becomes a true pleasure, like a child being let loose in a sweetie shop! I love bringing together different elements to create a harmonious whole, drawing inspiration from the natural world and historic traditions alike.
