Sally Chadwick Collectable Art Dolls
Sally Chadwick hails from Manchester, she moved to the Highlands because she wanted to live a happier more creative life, and this she has achieved. By day she works in an Out of School Club, and in her spare time she makes beautiful art dolls. Beginning as a hobby Sally has now been producing these fabulous pieces for around 6 years, ever since a friend bought her a book on the subject, unleashing a creative talent for working with textiles.
Sally loves story-telling (particularly fantasy), bead work, colour and the art of faces and figures. She also has a great fondness for jesters, and has created several for Beauly Gallery. Other designs past and present include fairies, elves, mermaids, angels, oriental dolls and other quirky characters who simply pop into her head! Sometimes the smallest trinket or piece of unusual cloth can suggest a new idea. Occasionally the inspiration comes from a name, or a character in a tale.
Sally says " Doll making is my passion because it has taught me so many new things, and I know I will continue to learn".
Her latest piece is a doll named Elizabeth. Elizabeth's costume is based upon authentic clothing from the mid to late 1800s. The style of her dress dates back to a combination of outfits from the 1860s, whilst her underwear is based upon fashions from the popular house of Worth. Her slippers are of Chinese cloth, reflecting the Victorian interest in oriental design."
Sally has been supplying Beauly Gallery with her Art Dolls for a number of years and her creations never fail to draw admiration, the attention to detail is amazing. A truly talented individual.
